Saturday 6/2/21 - Lighting Test

In preparation for the filming I decided to do a lighitng test for one scene in particular as I felt this would be difficult technically to create. The shot in mind was inspired by this photo:

The difficult part would be getting a small patch of light like that, especially in low light levels. I cut out 4 pieces of card with varying sizes of gaps for the light to peak through. I wanted to test to see how effective each would be at letting light through whilst limiting the spread.
To test how well these worked I used a prop from a project last year. I found that all pieces of card, aside from the last, let in a similar amount of light and still didn't limit the spread. This was the outcome for the majority:

I was stuck for ideas on how to limit the spread of the light until I realised I could create barriers on either side of the light gap to stop it from reaching other sides of the room.

This proved to be the answer as it meant the light would shine only on a small segment, meaning the shot was possible.
