Today was a continuation of the previous however now we were in Margate. Our purpose was to flaneur around Margate and, much like with yesterday, record our journey. This time however I would take photos purely and do no sketches. I took a variety of photos showcasing different aspects of life in Margate.
I documented my journey throughout Margate through photos, showing everywhere I went of note and showing the beauty I saw in a place that's not so beautiful.
It started in Dreamland and the arcade within, facinated by the neon lights and their glow I took photos of them. The carousel in the middle of the room had multiple bulbs covering it, I decided to emphasize the glow by decreasing focus and increasing warmth. I also took a photo of an arcade cabinet, specific one with a bright blue light. I am a huge fan of light in darkness with photography, some of my favourite photos being of neon signs at night. This is definitely something I want to use in future work.
I also took photos of the other parts of Dreamland such as the roller rink, bar and outside areas. I went for a vintage style with these photos as it's my favourite, it gives the impression I'm using a film camera. Unfortunately most of the park was closed so I was limited on what I could document and so was the roller rink (I was hoping to take photos of people skating, specifically Curtis).
The next part of the journey was the beach itself, whilst I didn't take many photos here it felt almost ironic being at beach during particular grey and rainy weather. However I am a fan of the atmosphere that comes with weather like this, it makes very dramatic shots. In the end I took a shot of a bird at the end of an old pool on the beach, it wasn't my favourite shot but it felt isolated much like the beach was.
After that our journey took us to the old Kent market, whilst this was just for lunch I used my Flaneur mindset and watched everyday life there. I took a black and white photo of the jukebox inside. I decided on black and white as it was actually originally very colourful but I wanted to focus on the shape as opposed to colour. This was a nice quiet place, just a few people eating and drinking.
This was at about 1pm so we went to the turner both for registration and to visit inside to see the exhibitions. I found the exhibitions very interesting. The photos I took of the exhibitions showed a closer look.
