Our first session of life drawing involved using multiple mediums to draw a skeleton. I was apprehensive at first but as I got started I almost immediate started to enjoy it. First we simply used a pencil in order to draw the skeleton, for this I used a 2B and HB to draw the skull. Next would be using a fine-liner (I used this to draw the spine), watercolour (the ribcage) and dual pencils (the arms).
I thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity as it allowed me to appreciate the ability to have a first hand source (previously I only ever used second hand to draw), I could see the depth and it was easier to pick up details. I also enjoyed the use of different mediums, I found them interesting to use and would definitely like to use them again in future. Each gave a varied style to the drawing and combined together made a nice mixed media piece.
Our second session involved drawing a nude figure, once again i felt apprehensive initially but once we started I enjoyed the drawing. Each attempt felt better than the last, it taught me how to pay attention to proportion and figure. My pencil sketches were a good start but we then moved onto charcoal. Initially I messed up, I draw proportion poorly and it generally didn't look good. Instead of giving up or restarting I used these mistakes, I redrew some lines and used them as shading for depth.
Overall I am glad we were given the opportunity to do life drawing, it gave me a greater appreciation for the fine arts and taught me new ways to draw that will help in future.
