Today we went on a trip to both the Imperial war museum and the Tate Modern in London, this was both for the device project and the future propaganda project. Whilst I didn't use this to help with ideas regarding the device project (considering our group already had a set choice at this point) I did use this for a lot of inspiration with the propaganda project. Specifically the museum helped most, the different exhibits and sections had a range of different things that inspired me. They covered topics regarding War and propaganda. In the holocaust section there was a lot of propaganda shown, the anti-semitic nazi posters specifically. It really showed the extent of how biased and terrible propaganda is, these posters were essentially what helped drove them into power and later cause the deaths of over 6 million jewish people. Whilst I won't be looking into propaganda from World War 2 for topics, I will take note the styles and colours they typically use. What sorta words do they put, how do they make it stand out etc.

However, it was a very interesting trip regardless. I really like the atmosphere of London and hope that next time I go I will be able to do some photoshoots as practice. There are some nice areas, for example the area around the Tate Modern, that would be perfect for some shoots. I also got a group photo with my friends at the Tate near the end of the day.

Things I noted down for future included

  • Destruction of war

  • Censorship

  • Emotions in war

  • Music and rebellion

This project has been an interesting one, I learned a fair amount however it wasn’t necessarily what I expected from this project....
