Initially for the final outcome I wanted to create a short video though unfortunately this proved to be near impossible with the lockdown starting in late March. After much thought as to where I could take the project I came up with a solution. Now I would be using photography, whilst I wanted to experiment with film and editing this would give me the opportunity to try new ideas in the field of photography.
My first idea was inspired by my illustration work. I wanted to get an astronaut helmet and reflect my painting in the visor and other lights, I made a quick mock-up of this idea using photoshop.

This plan shortly changed as unfortunately getting one was either impossible at the current time or too expensive. Instead I looked through my initial ideas and decided on using a mask.
For the propaganda project I created a test mask of my own design as a physical representation of my concept, whilst I could have used this I felt the design wasn't right for this. I also considered using the design I used in the final poster, I decided against this as it was too complicated to cut with cardboard.
Instead I made a smaller mask using the same shape as my first, however this time it had a blank face. I wanted the mask to be emotionless for this to help portray the idea that it's a physical representation of the mask people hide behind. This would help represent the themes of mental health, censorship and in general the negativity of life.
This was meant to be fully white but I only had a limited amount so instead I painted black around the edges and covered half of the face. This actually worked out for me as it is a representation of the imperfections and uncleanliness of everything.
A difficulty I ran into with the mask replacing a helmet was the fact that this can't reflect anything, now I had to scrap the plan to use my painting. Instead I was going to shine a rainbow over the mask using a torch and coloured plastic. This representing the good that also comes with life, the rainbow waiting on the other side.
