In the 21st century the idea of religion has changed drastically compared to history however, despite predictions during the 20th century that it would completely disappear, it has still survived and remains a huge factor in life. Not even just for those who follow and believe in different faiths. In the past it was considered more powerful than Royalty, it dictated law and nearly everyone followed the same faith based on their area, those who opposed these ideas were usually ridiculed and even killed.

Today more and more people find themselves not apart of any faith, some might go to those such as Atheism where they denounce all higher powers whereas others simply are open to the idea but don't necessarily believe the current ideas. Religion in the past almost seemed like a means of control over the people whereas a now it can be a vast range. Typically a source of finding sense in our existence and having a place in the world, people use it as a means of peace. Others find it to be the reasoning behind action, trying to be just in today's society and lead a good life. There are also the people who have used it for reasons considered unjust such as terrorism leading to the issues of discrimination because these people are claiming their actions are in the name of their faith.

Overall, whilst it doesn't have the same sense of power and control it once had, religion is still something that is present in 21st century life for a variety of reasons. It also still holds to be the source of inspiration of artists much like those throughout history including Michelangelo and Da Vinci with their work that is nearly universally recognised. One particular modern artist is the musician/rapper NF who used Christianity alongside his personal life experiences as the influence for his work. His parents were divorced, and his mothers boyfriend abused him physically. His Mother killed herself by overdosing. Music was essentially his only escape, however he also used his faith as an escape and influence whilst still not actually being a christian rapper. The idea of art and creativity is one way people can still be connected through religion despite differences in themselves and what they believe in. People still appreciate the works of artists inspired by religious contexts, some even consider it to be the greatest work in their eyes.
